Luxembourg

A dramatic fortress capital, deep wooded valleys and vineyard-lined rivers — tiny Luxembourg is an easy, scenic add-on to any trip through the heart of Europe.

About Luxembourg

Luxembourg City sits spectacularly over a gorge: the casemates, the old town and a fortress on the UNESCO World Heritage list. To the east lies the Moselle wine region, to the north-east the "Little Switzerland" (Müllerthal) of sandstone cliffs and forest trails, and to the north the castles of the Ardennes.

What makes tiny Luxembourg special is that it is compact and central: easy by train and a comfortable stop between Belgium, France and Germany. From spring to autumn it is green and mild for walking and wine, with a cosy Christmas market in the capital in December.

April–October for hiking & vineyards; the city year-round
