Few cities combine so much: Gaudí's flowing façades (Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló), the medieval lanes of the Gothic Quarter, the lively Ramblas and the La Boqueria market hall. And unlike most culture cities, Barcelona also has a city beach — Barceloneta is within walking distance of the centre.

It's a city to walk and to taste: pintxos and cava in El Born, an afternoon on Montjuïc overlooking the harbour, and a dinner that only starts late. Spring and early autumn are ideal — pleasant weather, terraces full, and the beach within reach without the summer heat.
